What the Husk?!

All coffee roasters face the same dilemma - what to do with all them husks?! Just the other week we were sent some great photo's from the teams in Blacktown & Lalor Park heading up a few community gardens, where our husks are being used to make compost, spread as mulch.

Lalor Park Community Garden

Initiated by a group of community representatives from Lalor Park and surrounding suburbs, who were keen to have a community garden in their local area.  Initially the gardeners commenced their gardening activities in raised garden beds located in the rear courtyard of Common Groundz Community Café while planning the new community garden.

Blacktown Showground Community Garden

The Showground Community Garden is wheelchair friendly, and has raised beds of different heights, ranging from ground level beds to raised sleeper edged beds, and disabled access beds.  Now there are vegetables and herbs growing in the garden beds and the citrus are growing well.

It's great to see the results of what can be classified trash being put to good use to benefit the local community! Keep up the good work Blacktown!!!
